  1. Khushwant Singh does not spare any one It is true of this book as well He is candid, appreciative and acerbic, depending upon his understanding of the individual Hence, he terms Krishna Menon as a person who had a strong streak of sadism He lays the ground rules in the introduction to the book The truly good and great are not diminished when their faults are exposed on the contrary, they earn greater respect for rising to admirable heights despite their human flaws

  2. Ordinary Falling short on expectations Ordinary Falling short on expectations Very short topics with not much details or insights Not interesting considering other good books written by Khuswant Singh.

  3. Many authors write stories about the people they have met in life, incidents they have experienced or observed from far away But most of the time while writing these stories they never picture themselves in a negative way But Khushwant Singh is different from all He loves to criticise people but then he does not shy away from criticising himself also As he says in the beginning of book that he is a big gossiper and opinionated, that is clearly reflected in each story of his It seems at times tha [...]

  4. The Good, the Bad and the Ridiculous is an interesting concept and has some terrific, very personal and visceral insights into some of the most prolific people writers, government officials, presidents and prime ministers that shaped India in an influential way While the anecdotes are small I actually wished some to be longer , its a breezy read and some of the pieces do seem coloured with Khushwant Singh s personal opinions of the said people alone The kind of people mentioned generally always [...]

  7. It was a page turner for sure, Khushwant Singh s unique style of profiling each personality is very interesting It is not a biography or a detailed account of a person s life it is basically his opinion about the person, and stories of any anecdotes, quips he s recoded in his encounters with him her The yardstick used to measure up the person is consistent most of the times and consistent with his beliefs as well of liberalism, secularism and honesty. Some of the folks, he knows very well to writ [...]

  9. Unapologetic Mr.Singh does an amazing job of profiling some of the eminent figures of India s past He shares his opinions based on his personal experiences with these personalities Sardar starts with a self declaration that he is a voyeur, a gossip and very opinionated From hisfindingson Gandhiji, it is quite evident, his love for scandal Khushwant singh is known for his sexual remarks but his take on former Prime Minister of India Smt.Indira Gandhi and bandit queen Phoolan Devi, would definetly [...]

  10. A fast simple read, but definitely not even close to the best from Khushwant Singh Only a few of the profiles are make an interesting read In many of the places, the author is interested in just giving the names of people he knew, and he sounds just like any old Indian aunt giving extended family members details

  11. well, long back i read his men and women in my life profiles by khushwant Singh i am not impressed at that time ,now also he just wrote about them glimpse of famous people which is not good prose you have to read it because he wrote it not because book is readable

  12. He has shared his meetings with some of the well known people of different countries which were having relevant or irrelevant profiles considering their work Book will help you out to read about the discussed people and profiles.

  13. I was expecting some insights into the people the author was writing about However, I did not find any There are a few vignettes here and there that make you think or then smile However, apart from that there is nothing much too memorable about this book.

  14. It is a fantastic read to know about his associations and views of 35 well known people in the previous century.

  15. Not the best stuff by Khushwant Singh but a good collection of hilarious profiles which remind you how human some of our famous personalities really are.

  16. Looks like a very hastily put together compilation of profiles of famous people that Khushwant Singh has had the opportunity to get to know It s a casual read in his classic no holds barred style.

  17. A good book if you have fair amount of idea about Indian politics and want to know some spicy tid bits about famous personalities of Indian history.
