  1. If the title seems a little out there, there s a reason.Theodore Beale, a.k.a Vox Day, leader of the Rabid Puppies faction in the slate attacks on this year s Hugo Awards for science fiction and fantasy, has been a bit obsessed with John Scalzi He also rants a good deal about SJWs social justice warriors, who according to him and his friends are destroying science fiction by liking things the Puppies don t Recently, he s released a book, promised for at least two or three weeks beforehand, entit [...]

  2. Some might argue that John Scalzi is a popular science fiction author who writes entertaining middlebrow novels that make the bestseller lists, has a popular blog on which he talks about dining with celebrities and taping foodstuffs to his pets, and who has moderate slightly right of centre but broadly centrist political views.Still might say I don t know who John Scalzi is Why are you asking me about him Leave me alone Those people are all, of course, social justice warriors I am, in all modes [...]

  3. I listened to this over forty minutes this morning after Scalzi uploaded his reading of it to his blog I was a bit confused at first and thought he d written it, but dear old Theo appears to be a pseudonym for somebody else If you re not familiar with all the hubbub surrounding the Hugos this year you probably won t think this book is very funny, but I followed it very closely, and thus think the satire is sort of brilliant And I haven t even read the writing that it s satirizing Scalzi also bri [...]

  4. So here s the thing This is funny You only really get what is going on here if you have followed John Scalzi s blogs twitter accounts and seen some of the mess thrown at him there and also via taunts on I refuse to say that guy s name, he s a wanker website where he has a list of things that he emphasizes all of the time that he always claims that John Scalzi has lied about I personally don t take Social Justice Warrior as an insult Some people use it that way because apparently people actually [...]

  5. Listened to the audio version read by John Scalzi himself Find it online at John s blog whateveralzi Who would ve thought that St John s Wort could be so conspiratorial and combative

  6. Such superior intellect Wow It is all so clear now I will have to turn in my Social Justice Mage badge, for I have now seen the error of my ways The extra chapter 5 s are a masterful touch That ll learn Scalzi

  7. I know Scalzi and Pratt whatever his real name is did this for a good cause I also know that, sadly, their satire of the Vox Day and others is pretty on the mark But I prefer wittier satire like Scalzi s taken on PR speak when he introduces the manual for the Brain interface in Old Man s War So I couldn t get into it too much Still, having read the Whatever blog posts that this book makes fun of, it s all real Meaning, these are all things that people have accused Scalzi of, not that the accusat [...]

  8. I m not sure what this book adds to the conversation It s a childish neener neener form of satire mocking Vox Day, which, fine, the guy deserves it, but I m not sure I learned anything or experienced anything new or interesting by bearing witness I guess the td dr version is I d rather not give the GG and the Puppy crowds any of my time and attention, including the time it takes to read a mockery of their points of view.

  9. In light of the whole Gamergate Puppygate MRA controversy, this is damn funny John s reading is spot on

  10. Worthy and joyousFull of good to know info The conspiracy is real Believe it BELIEVE IT Chapter 5 is inspiring also chapter 5

  11. This was either written by a bored, female substitute teacher or a male vegan substitute teacher SJWs fail at satire.

  12. Being someone who was interested in the Hugo nomination process and Puppygate, I figured I would find this interesting I m a fairly independent person when it comes to politics, and I figured I d enjoy some good satire poking fun at one side or the other I was able to understand arguments on both sides of the Puppygate controversy, and I figured this would be interesting as well as entertaining. In case you haven t noticed, I used figured a lot.I figured wrong I ll admit that I didn t make it thr [...]

  13. The truth is in the title, can t you see It s a simple matter of demonstrable and incontrovertible facts that John Scalzi is not popular and that his many copies of books sold everywhere and recommended by so many people are all just part of a giant conspiracy run by people who care about feebly things such as not being racists and respecting people , rather than important things such as quality editing and making sure sentences do not run on tediously and endlessly because that s one of those f [...]

  14. Satire of the rabid right wing fringe that tried and failed to hijack the Hugo awards or a literal and loving depiction of said fringe with warts and all John Scalzi s own reading of this work only serves to add further layers to the whole steaming pot of madness Or does it Sometimes I even confuse myself The editing is at a standard at least as awesome as other Hugo nominated editors have managed to achieve Whether you are a SJW or just an ordinary douche you should read this book unless you do [...]

  15. This book is a very important read for anyone fighting those who fight for social justice Very important Also John Scalzi is not a popular writer Like at all If you hate GamerGate and Rabid Puppies and either hate or just pity Sad Puppies this is really the book for you Definitely had me giggling, because not a single word in this book is outside of the realm of things these lovely folks have said or expressed.

  16. Satire parody at its finest You have to have followed PuppyGate and the 2015 Hugo slate controversy to understand where this book is coming from For added laughs, go to Scalzi s website where you can find an audio recording.whateveralzi 2015 08 29

  17. I originally rated this three stars Then I read s free sample of the work that John Scalzi Is Not A Very Popular Author is based on, and realized just how spot on the parody is, so I m adding a star.

  18. Well, I m convinced All this time, I thought John Scalzi WAS a popular author but it turns out that he wasn t I m glad that Theo Pratt has shown me the error of my ways And the satire Theo Pratt s satire is best satire.

  19. One word hilarious and the fact I m not being sarcastic must make me an SJW then again, as a European how could I not be

  20. Listen to the audio version for the full experience Note if you haven t been paying attention to the Hugo kerfuffle this year this won t make any sense to you
