  1. As part of our homeschool day I require my 8 year old to read to me 1 3 chapters a day from a book of his choice After he read one chapter of The Last Kids On Earth, he decided he wanted to read another And after that one, he decided he wanted to read another This went on for a couple chapters until he decided he wanted to read the whole book today I was given a lunch break and a few potty breaks, however, my son gleefully read the whole 225 pages of this book to me in one sitting This was a fi [...]

  2. I remember thinking, UM THIS CAN T BE REAL IT MUST BE A PRANK A JOKE A REALITY SHOW RIGHT So I said to Quint, UM THIS CAN T BE REAL IT MUST BE A PRANK A JOKE A REALITY SHOW RIGHT But it wasn t.Meet Jack Sullivan Zombie hunter, monster slayer, late blooming, slow developing 13 year old He s riding out the monster apocalypse from his tree house, and is doing his best to keep busy.He s set himself achievements, like Mad Hatter Steal the hats off five zombies.Outrun Beat a zombie in a footrace.Say C [...]

  3. LOVE THIS BOOK A sort of chapter book graphic novel hybrid, similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid in format, featuring ZOMBIES, and a hilarious protagonist. It s like the trifecta of kid lit AWESOME After a monster attack destroys the town of Wakefield and transforms most of its citizens into zombies, one of the last survivors is 13 year old, Jack Sullivan, self proclaimed zombie fighting, monster slaying, tornado of cool When Jack s not battling the undead, he hangs in one of literature s BEST settings [...]

  4. I bought this book for one of my little sisters this past Christmas and she didn t read it, so I was like, fine I ll read it Apocalypse is big right now and so are sassy male leads like Percy Jackson Jack Sullivan is a sassy male lead and this book is about an apocalypse The thing that makes this series different is that it is illustrated, not like most kids books where there is a picture that goes along with the text in The Last Kids on Earth, the pictures are a part of the story, maybe a comic [...]

  5. Received a copy at BEA 2015 now is this the kind of book I would usually pick up No, and if it were straight text I would have skipped it but the graphics broke up the story put a clever pace on the end of the world story that I found it entertaining and engaging The YA crowd should love this rag tag bunch who manage to stay alive on their own barely.

  6. My youngest daughter has kind of fallen out of reading, so for this past Christmas I bought her a bunch of books in the hopes of getting her excited about reading again Well No dice She still hasn t picked any of them up So I thought maybe if I gave them a try she d be a little interested Not sure yet how that s going to work out overall, but I really enjoyed this one, even if she never reads it.Jack is an orphan in foster care who has FINALLY made a friend at his most recent school when, woul [...]

  7. An interesting new start to a series that focuses on an orphan, Jack, who is trying to stay alive and slay monsters in post apocalyptic Wakefield There are zombies and monsters but surprisingly few adults in this town but don t worry these kids have no problems creating ingenious ways of protecting themselves.

  8. The graphics were really well done, and the writing was solid I wasn t a huge fan of present tense being used throughout the book, but it worked It definitely has a Diary of a Wimpy Kid feel, but I found it to be interesting.

  9. I readThe Last Kids on EarthBy Max Brallier This book is about a post apocalyptic world where only the fit survive, then there is the unfit that some how survive For instance Jack Sullivan a normal middle school student who became a monster slayer Jack needed to get a repair kit for a walk i.e Talkie so he could talk to his friend Quint who might be alive So he went to CVS to get a repair kit for the walk i.e Talkie when he ran in Blarg a giant monster that is the persistent thing you ll ever se [...]

  10. I saw this Graphic Novel pop up not even sure where any , but I knew instantly this was a book I was going to love And after reading it Yes, yes, I love it a lot I even went ahead and pre ordered the sequel Yes, this one is getting a sequel, something I didn t know until I finished, scrolled through the last pages and came upon a page that gave the hint that our characters would be back DNow for this book What would you do if the world you know, the world you well, kind of, like, suddenly is ov [...]

  11. Copy from public libraryJack Sullivan s life as a foster child could be tough, but it was nothing compared to his life after the monster zombie apocalypse He s taken over a tree house and fortified it as best he can against the zombified humans as well as the violent monsters He feels that he might as well make the best of a bad situation, and has a series of goals for himself One is to find his best friend, Quint, so that the two can fight zombies together Quint loves inventions and is very cre [...]

  12. When I heard this one compared to a cross between DIARY OF A WIMPY KID and The Walking Dead, I couldn t pass it up After it was snatched up by one of my students, I was able to get my hands on it.What fun Jack Sullivan s life has been a disaster He is used to being shuffled from one foster family to another Now he finds himself totally on his own after the apocalypse hits his town Surrounded by zombies and countless other fearsome monsters, Jack is living in the treehouse in the backyard of his [...]

  13. This book is heavily flawed but Brallier s enthusiastically out there writing, the illustrations and how enveloping and easy The Last Kids on Earth is to read should definitely encourage you to try this out for yourself At times, the unrealistic and episodic handling of these kids emotions their nerves should be shot to hell in a practical warzone where parents are nowhere to be seen bogs down the quality of this otherwise marvelous kids book, but I highly doubt both the target audience and anyo [...]

  14. It s kind of fun to see the dystopia zombie monster post society books make their way to the middle grade level, and Total Monster Chaos, the first tale of The Last Kids on Earth, kind of delivers When it s not checking off the basic boxes that are expected by some corners, it ends up being a pretty silly, fairly fun and quick read.It feels like a corny monster movie in a lot of ways, which is great, and it has a lot of appeal to the same type of Captain Underpants Wimpy Kid style reads that hav [...]

  15. If I had to recommend this book, I would recomend it to a 4th grader If I had to rate this book 10 Ill give it a 8 10 This book is about a boy named Jack Sullivan and his three friends They both work together to defeat all of the Zombie Monsters Jack and his friends are thirteen The apocalypse all started after the school year Everyone ran away or got eaten or as jack says Zombified Towards the end of the book they defeat the main monster Acid eye Jack comes up with these names It was a tough ba [...]

  16. I just finished reading this to my 10 year old He loved it and is already asking for the sequel He couldn t sit still while I read it, constantly up and down, wandering around me, looking at the pictures and absolutely entranced and excited by the story After I finished he took the book from me and was looking through at all the pictures and the map in anticipation of where the next book would lead our heroes I am sure he will re read this himself many times I hope Max Brallier puts out The Zomb [...]

  17. Loads of kid, especially boy, appeal in this zany romp through the monster zombie apocalypse Love June s quote on page 173 Boy smell is worse than zombie smell Almost And Quint s words on page 186 There s no dibs on girls Jack is a wise cracking, chatty, and fun narrator Looking forward to the next adventure.

  18. Sometimes your kid recommends a zombie book, so you read it It s cute I enjoyed the authorial voice and the different fonts and the drawings It s much better than the Percy Jackson book I had to read for the same reason.

  19. My 8 yr old read it in less than two days It was an exciting story, full of action and rich illustrations LOVED it

  20. Given to me to read by my excited, bookworm 10 year old This book put a pit in my stomach It references porn and is sexist towards the only female character who is also a love interest It s the story of a boy who survives a monster zombie apocalypse with some friends It s a chapter book graphic novel It treats porn as an essential survival item for boys References it as belonging to the father of one of the boys So not only is looking at it treated as OK, but having a dad looking at it is OK Jun [...]

  21. The book The Last Kids on Earth by Max Brallier is about two kids Jack and his best friend. One day he goes to a local CVS nd right then and there he gets spotted and attacked by a big scary monster So he runs back home and the Zombie Apocalypse happens when he gets back home his family is not there so he has to go through with no one, until he finds his friend There mission is to save Jacks love of his life and survive I recommend this book to people who like action, Zombies and adventure.

  22. Joe actually went ahead and finished it as soon as he got home from school, so I followed up pre bedtime Great stuff and aside from the fun and the clearly defined characters with exacting prose it really gets foster kids.

  23. My third grade son asked me to read this, and I m so glad I did The perfect mix of humor and suspense that teaches a lesson about friendship and finding the joy in life despite a difficult situation Highly recommend for 3rd 5th grade boys.

  24. Fun book with fun illustrations The patriarchy was rather rampant in the beginning but I was pleasantly surprised that it didn t last I read it to my kid and while I d prefer the language to be a little less juvenile, even for her, we both enjoyed it.

  25. This book is about a boy named Jack and there is a zombie apocklipse and his parents and there whole earth has been taken over by zombies The boy lives in a tree house and builds up a little army of his own and it is built out of a bunch of kids from around the nieghbor hood and defeats zombies. This is a great book i recomend this book to alot of people i couldnt put it down but I think the book had too many pictures i would have liked to imagine the book .

  26. I am surprised how much I liked this book it is silly and fun to read My 7th grade special education students were totally engaged in silent reading I am hoping this carries over to books that have no illustrations.
