  1. Walking on Sunshine reads like a diary and nothing besides that While I can appreciate Rachel s love for flowers, poetry and all things nice, and her style is simple but cute if a little naive , I got nothing out of it except a mild puzzlement over how anyone but the author herself could find this book life changing in any way.

  2. A nice little book with 52 steps to walk on sunshine.I just want to take this opportunity to wish my GR friends a very Merry Christmas and that you all always walk on sunshine

  3. Walking on Sunshine, by British author Rachel Kelly, is a quick, easy read that is not really intended to be read through all at once In a similar vein to Jon Cousins Nudge Your Way to Happiness, Walking on Sunshine provides bite sized ideas for increasing happiness In this case the happiness prescriptions are delivered one week at a time for one year, instead of one day at a time for one month, as was the case in Cousins book.Kelly organized this book by seasons, beginning with spring, loosely [...]

  4. Written as weekly journal entries over the course of the year, the author shares what has worked for her Fifty two do able tips and ideas categorized by season, on how to be thankful. The author talks about gratitude as a way of life And how making the effort can actually change your entire life, and the lives of those around you This is a look into what works for the author, to get through the everyday ups and downs that life throws at you.I enjoyed the intimate look into her diary and saw simil [...]

  5. Favorite passages p 4 Control is closely linked to anxiety I usually try to tell others what to do as a response to feeling insecure myself, and, yes, ironically, out of control And so now every time I find myself bossing around others, I ask myself why I ve found I m typically imposing my own agenda on those around me and dictating how I feel the world should run, rather than receiving the world as it is The much relaxing option may be to stop, breathe, and turn control into curiosity Why, I w [...]

  6. When I pick up a book like this, I hope to learn something new However, the book was just things someone would learn after going to counseling for a few months It would be a good introduction for someone who has never practiced mindfulness or worked on developing good coping skills However, I wouldn t recommend this to anyone with major depression because it was pretty superficial and naive It s for someone who is having a bad week I d hoped it would dig deeper since the author says in the intr [...]

  7. I honestly did not get the purpose of this book Or perhaps the issue here is that it says nothing new. Some parts clearly are diary entries slightly adjusted and improved to make chapters out of them.It s a tiny book and most pages are filled with only a drawing, so it is an easy read that can be done in 1 hour or so But I still feel it comes after author s personal diary and should have stayed so.Whereas I liked the idea of giving one advice per week throughout the year, in practice what I got i [...]

  8. Great read loved the simple 52 small steps and made perfect sense in this chaotic world Great read loved how she explains things in her own words loved it The book is a great took to mindfulness and not preaching at all but simple steps that made you think about your own way of being in the here and now.

  9. Inspirational HALT stop are you hungry angry lonely tired To calm yourself close one nostril with your finger and only breathe through the other nostril If anything relationships work projects, etc is 60 per cent then your doing well Sit in meditation for 20 minutes every day unless you re too busy then sit for an hour.

  10. This book just didn t make sense to me I found it hard to follow and just overwhelmingly uninteresting Out of the 52 small steps, only 2 of them really jumped out at me and felt relate able.

  11. a great little book for dipping into quote Kath frombour bookgroup if you get 5% of value out of this s worth reading first foray into the self help genre but did not feel compelled to finish itjust not quite useful enough to trigger a mindset change to change a behaviour in the longer term.

  12. Great little book of meditations and happiness advice I could see having this on my shelf for reference when I m having a bad day.

  13. A comforting little read, but nothing than a collation of other people s wisdom, art or guidance This book is akin to a magpie picking up lots of shiny objects and bring them back to its own nest to make a nice display It s a positive read nonetheless

  14. Having read the very mixed reviews on Rachel Kelly s Walking on Sunshine, I approached this book with an open mind My conclusion What you think of the book is very much based on what you were expecting of it.Rachel clearly states that this is 52 Small Steps to Happiness, rather than a lengthy, wordy tome and that is exactly what we have got a lovely positive and personal book, that reads like a journal. The opening step, 1 The Spring is Coming, grabbed at my attention from the start Like Rachel, [...]

  15. This book arrived as one of those little surprises delivered by the friendly postman I opened the package and almost immediately began to read it After two sittings that afternoon, I d read through it Walking on Sunshine is a brilliantly put together book which delivers meaningful messages in simple and straight forward language, accompanied by whimsical illustrations.I could relate to the author, having suffered two bouts of depression and sought different methods of dealing with anxiety and th [...]

  16. Most books in the self help genre tend to imply that there is a way to live your life perfectly, and when you don t manage it, you feel worst about your life than before Not this one.Kelly takes a very realistic view about happiness and how it exists in our lives Walking On Sunshine is not about living a perfect life, but about the little ways you can nurture contentment with the life that you are living It is about recognizing that one s life will never be perfect, never without pain and suffe [...]

  17. Walking on Sunshine is a charming little book from writer Rachel Kelly who discusses her struggles with mindfulness and how she uses the world around her to create a positive attitude and outlook. This may all seem overly simplified and twee but there have been any scientific studies so I m told that show how meditation, counting your blessings, etc can have a great effect on your attitude and mental health This is a little collection that shows you just how to do that for yourself.Walking on Sun [...]

  18. I have just started dipping into this book, as it is that sort of book Rachel Kelly talks about ways in which we kind find the simple things in life to bring us pleasure and fulfillment, as so many people now battle with depression and or that longing for that something else which cannot be given to you or bought Having done a course on Mindfulness with Breathworks Western Buddhist group based in Manchester , at a centre in Leeds, aimed at living well in chronic pain, and I am a practicing Chris [...]

  19. If when I ve made a mistake I try and imagine talking to myself as if I were a child I would talk to a child in a loving a forgiving way This is a slight book, and there s nothing earth shatteringly new in it But perhaps its slightness allows the nuggets to stand out better than they would in a longer, denser tome I found several gems here that we would all do well to put into practice.

  20. A very good book to follow through the year I raced on and read through the whole thing, but I m going to start in in January again and reading it over the year A lot of lovely, basically diary entries that Rachel Kelly has made and things to think about I enjoyed it and it was very insightful Looking forward to starting it again.

  21. I bought this book just over a year ago when I was unwell and went on a book splurge I have read 1 entry most weeks I ve sped up at the end to finish it It s a nice little book with interesting tips and comments Not a life changing book but something nice to read.

  22. Caveat I won a copy of this book from GoodReads giveaways. While not all new techniques to me, it was fun to read through additional ideas and I did find a handful of new future plans for myself and others I know.

  23. I wish I could at least say it is a well written book, but it isn t It has some interesting stories but isn t really worth giving your time to read it, nothing you don t already know, I just wish some people would just not write and this is one effort that is lacking.

  24. Was a nice little book, good to recap on what you can do to improve your situation and its in an easy to refer too way all been done before though, nothing new or ground breaking here and I have read so many of these type of books I am looking for something special now

  25. A little book that you can refer to regularly some interesting steps and some you already know but need reminding of Will it lead to full happiness Well only if you want it to
