  1. I felt like this book was a very interesting read Having horses, myself, it was very sad when horses had to be put down The book did drag on in some parts which is why I gave it only four stars instead of five stars I like how most of the stories were wrapped up at the end of the chapters They was either a happy ending or a sad ending Some of the chapter s ending came as a surprise Overall, it was a fun read

  2. I started this over the holidays, and it s probably the only nonfiction book on my list of favorite books It s the story of a year that the author a journalist spent in the Rood and Riddle equine hospital in kentucky What I enjoyed as much as the patient profiles was her descriptions of the vets A varied and colorful crew full of quirky characters and brilliant innovators, they re as much a part of the book as their equine counterparts The stories are breathtaking and emotionally gripping Awesom [...]

  3. Overall I really enjoyed this book The stories were in depth and I really enjoyed the amount of detail used in describing the horse s injuries sickness and the progress of their treatment and recoveries This book was definitely geared toward people who had some general knowledge of horses and their anatomy though Specific words and parts of the horse were often not explained in layperson terms and could be confusing to some readers.

  4. To me it seemed like a bunch of separate stories with no overarching theme to tie the book together I suppose it was about the circle of life The medical info was interesting but toward the end I found myself skimming to see what the outcome was for the horses without reading the details of their care As a horse owner it made me want to keep my horse in a padded stall 24 7, which will never happen.

  5. I enjoyed the book because of the stories but I did not like all the extra details the random racehorses that may or may not of had anything to do with the story, anecdotes about the Keeneland sales going on during the story, etc Some details were necessary the caterpillar problem in 2001 but most details were unnecessary to the story.
